CMU’s DIII club hockey team has officially qualified for the American Collegiate Hockey Associations National Tournament.

The tournament will be held at Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids Michigan. The semi-final qualifiers will be held this Thursday through Saturday. Both semi-final games will take place at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, followed by the final at 6:30 Tuesday.

CMU matchups

Thursday (5 p.m.): #7 CMU vs #2 University of Michigan

Friday (11:30 a.m.): #7 CMU vs # Arkansas University

Saturday (noon): #6 Dallas Baptist University vs #7 CMU

The Chippewas club team finished their season with a 4-3 record. The top point scores for the team were Brendan Nelson (12 goals, 10 assists), Jordan Cooper (seven goals, nine assists) and Joey Simoncelli (five goals, seven assists).

During their shortened regular season CMU faced off against Michigan three times, all resulting in losses. But playing nearly half-a-season against U of M does more good than bad for their Thursday qualifying matchup. Central also took a two-game sweep against Trine University and two double digit victories against Northwood University.

The top eight programs that qualified goes as followed:

Group A: #1 Hope College, #4 Adrian College, #5 Florida Gulf Coast University, #8 Missouri State.

Group B: #2 Michigan, #3 Arkansas, #6 Dallas Baptist, and #7 Central Michigan.
