CMU falls to American University

Coming off a win in its season opener, Central Michigan field hockey faced off with nationally-ranked American, on Sunday. 

However, the Eagles' offense controlled the match throughout beating the Chippewas 4-0. 

Both teams are now 1-1 on the season. 

Midway through the first, American's Federica Turina Dellamaggiore scored the first goal of the game. 

In the second quarter, the Eagles' offensive onslaught continued as they added two more goals. 

American's Lotta Curanz scored in the opening minutes of the quarter. A few moments later, Dellamaggiore added her second goal of the game, pushing the score to 3-0. 

The Eagles outshot CMU 10-2 in the first half. 

Following the break, both teams increased their intensity on offense, combining for 11 shots in the third. But the score remained, 3-0 as the fourth quarter began. 

That's when Dellamaggiore struck again, extending the lead to four, with her third goal of the game. 

American outshot CMU 23-10 in the contest. 

Junior Katie Maxim led the way for the Chippewas, facing 13 shots and recording 9 saves. 

The Chippewas will look to bounce back in Ann Arbor when they face Ohio University on Friday, at 3 p.m.
