Whitfield earns MAC Defensive Player of the Week

During Central Michigan volleyball's match against Buffalo on Saturday, senior middle blocker Maddie Whitfield recorded a career-high 12 blocks to break the CMU record for most blocks in a five-set match. 

As a result, she earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday. 

Over the weekend, Whitfield led the defensive effort for the Chippewas, finishing with 17 blocks and 16 kills. 

Whitfield is currently ranked first in the MAC in blocks with 115 (1.32 per set). 

The Chippewas split their weekend trip, defeating Akron 3-0 and falling to Buffalo 3-2. CMU volleyball is15-9 overall and 8-5 in conference play. 

CMU travels to DeKalb, Illinois Saturday, to face off against Northern Illinois at 7 p.m.
