Gymnastics finishes second in New Hampshire Tri-Meet

In its season opener, Central Michigan University gymnastics traveled to New Hampshire to compete in a tri-meet with the University of New Hampshire and Temple University as it fell short of a first-place victory on Sunday. 

The Chippewas were in the lead coming into the fourth rotation with a score of 145.725 as the Wildcats of New Hampshire followed closely behind with 145.625. Temple trailed by a larger margin with 144.225 points. 

The last event for the Chippewas was the uneven bars. CMU freshman Luciana Alvarado-Reid and UNH senior Kylie Gorgenyi tied for first place in the event with a score of 9.850. However, after the completion of the floor routines, the Wildcats took the lead.

The final score had UNH in first place with 194.475, CMU was not far behind in second with 194.100 and Temple finished with a final score of 193.200. 

The Chippewas took first overall on beam with a score of 48.500. The Wildcats scored 48.350 while Temple had a score of 48.325. 

CMU senior Hannah Demers placed second out of four athletes in the all-around category with a score of 38.775. 

Top five finishers in vault included a three-way tie for fourth place between NHU freshman Serena Mullin and CMU junior Elizabeth Cesarone and Alvarado-Reid with a score of 9.750. 

The Wildcats and Chippewas were neck and neck as CMU senior Taylor Pitchell and junior Elizabeth Buttle were a part of a three-way tie with UNH freshman Riley Himes with a score of 9.800 on floor. 

The Chippewas look to secure their first win in the home opener against Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. on Saturday at McGuirk Arena.
