SGA hears annoucements for job opportunites, events

At Monday’s Student Government Association meeting, there were a variety of announcements and time for brainstorming new legislation.

Employment Opportunity

Erin Smith-Gaken is the associate director of the Office of Student Success. She came to the meeting to explain the employment opportunity over the summer for students interested in mentoring new student orientations. 

Anyone interested in this program should apply through Engage Central, or contact Smith at smith1ej@cmich.edu by Feb. 10.

Smith said the program starts with an application, a series of interviews, and some team bonding training for new hires. The orientations are mostly in June, with some other employment options in July and August, she said. 

Housing and a meal plans while on campus are also provided for employees. 

Career Fair

A representative from the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, Simone Patrick, announced the return of their annual career fair. 

This year, the fair is in Finch Fieldhouse from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday Feb. 10 with over 100 recruiters present. Patrick said there are opportunities for internships, co-ops, and full time employment. 

Patrick also shared some suggestions for coming prepared and presenting well to the recruiters:

  • Wear business professional clothing
  • Bring an updated version of your resume
  • Identify the recruiters you’re interested in talking to before attending
  • Send follow-up emails to the recruiters you shared contact and/or employment information with to set yourself apart

  • The Taylor Swift Society is hosting a “Galentine’s” day event on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Herrig Hall classrooms two and three

The office of Multicultural Academic Student Services is hosting a variety of events throughout the month of February to celebrate Black History Month
