Looking to put together a winning streak, Central Michigan men’s basketball faced off against No. 10 ranked Creighton on Saturday. For the Chippewas it was not what they were hoping for as they were dominated in every facet of the game.

CMU fell big to the Bluejays, 109-64. The loss brings the Chippewas squad to 3-6 on the season with this being their second loss to a team ranked inside the AP top 25.

The name of the game was the three-point shot for both teams. The Chippewas struggled mightily from behind the arch as the team shot 2-19. Creighton shot the ball extremely well from three as it made just under 50 percent (15-31) of its three-point attempts.

One Chippewa made both of the team’s threes, as junior guard Derrick Butler led the team offensively. For the second straight game Butler was the game’s leading scorer as he had 28 points on the night.

Junior guard Anthony Pritchard also put in a solid performance as he added 22 points, on an effective 52 percent (10-19) from the field.

CMU had a tough time slowing down the Creighton offensive attack. The 109 points CMU allowed is the most points they’ve allowed since its 2021 loss against No. 1 Gonzaga who scored 107 points.

Creighton also did not have a standout player as it led more of a balanced attack, as six different Bluejays had over double digits in the game. Every player who registered a minute on the court for Creighton also reached the score column.

CMU struggled on the boards as Creighton outrebounded CMU 40-25. The Chippewas only managed to grab 16 defensive rebounds.

One area that Central Michigan can find a positive is its ball handling as it only turned the ball over six times. This is only the second time this season CMU has had less than 10 turnovers in a game.

CMU will have a 10-day break before it takes on Davenport at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19 at McGuirk Arena.
