CMU men's basketball wins second straight with win over Detroit Mercy

After, trailing by 13 points at half, Detroit Mercy rallied back to take a one-point lead against Central Michigan men's basketball with 10:28 remaining in the game. That was until Brian Taylor scored seven-straight points, jump-starting a 13-0 CMU run.

Central Michigan continued building on its lead at one point being up 19. The Chippewas wound up winning the game 75-63, bringing the team to one game within .500 on the season.

Again, CMU was led offensively by graduate guard Brian Taylor who had a game high 19 points while shooting 50 percent from the field. Taylor also added 11 rebounds, giving him back-to-back games with a double-double.

The Chippewas had two other scorers with double-digit scoring. Those being junior guards Derrick Butler and Anthony Pritchard who both scored 15 points in the contest.

Pritchard also added seven assists and seven rebounds, giving him a near triple double.

For the second consecutive game CMU was without starting forward junior Markus Harding. On the season he is averaging 10 points and four rebounds.

An area of improvement for the Chippewas was from the free throw line as they shot 73 percent (11-15) compared to their season average of 64 percent.

However, CMU did find itself into foul trouble in the game. Every player who entered the game for the Chippewas recorded at least one foul, while sophomore guard Aidan Rubio was the only player to not register two or more fouls.

Detroit Mercy capitalized on the Chippewas fouls as it made 20 of the 26 free throws it attempted.

One spot Detroit Mercy couldn’t find a groove from was from three-point range. The Titans seemed to live or die by the three, as the team only managed to make five of its 30 attempts.

Central Michigan will now have a nine-day break before it travels to Chicago, Illinois where it will play Loyola Chicago on December, 30 at 2 p.m.
