Central Michigan women's basketball successfully ended its nine-game losing streak in an explosive 64-60 win against in-state rivals Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Previously coming off a loss on the road at Akron, CMU was determined to snag a win before returning to Mount Pleasant.

"It felt great," head coach Kristin Haynie said. "I'm proud of the players. They've been putting in the work, they've stayed together and they keep fighting; they deserved this win."

As the first half of the game concluded, CMU was up by 10 going into the half. The Chippewas kept the lead for the majority of the matchup until the end of the third quarter when the Eagles started to crawl their way back into the game.

Both teams took the lead numerous times until a late layup from center Rochelle Norris settled the game.

Confidence has become key in the ability to finish out games in the last half, something that this team has previously lacked. However, with just their second win of the season, the Chippewas look to use this road victory to their advantage, according to Haynie.

"We will build off this win and momentum and take it with us into the practices and then carry it over to Ball State," Haynie said. "We're excited to be back on our home court, and we need to protect it with a win on Wednesday."

CMU shot above average in field goals at 47.8 percent while hitting 78.3 percent of its free throws.

Forward Nadége Jean, who was named player of the game led with 15 points and went 7-of-8 in free throws. Settling close behind was guard Karrington Gordon, who has had a powerful performance in the last few games, ending the win with 14 points and CMU's only two three-pointers.

The Chippewas head back to McGuirk Arena on Wednesday looking to stay in the win column as they face Ball State at 11 a.m.

"I hope that we keep putting the work into practice," Haynie said. "That we keep believing in each other and ourselves and we stay with the process."
