The Central Michigan women’s basketball team (18-11, 12-6) gave its seniors the proper sendoff Wednesday evening, defeating the Bowling Green Falcons (16-13, 8-9) 77-65.

“Both of the seniors left it all on the floor, so I'm just proud of them,” head coach Kristin Haynie said.

In the Chippewas' final game of the regular season, seniors Demetria Prewitt and Taylor Anderson were just shy of double-doubles. Anderson recorded nine points and 10 rebounds while Prewitt had 11 points and eight rebounds. Prewitt also had four blocks, a career high.

“I’m very happy that they were part of helping us get back to the top of the MAC [Mid-American Conference],” Haynie said. “They left this place better than when they came here, and they’ve done a really good job of being team first.”

Anderson, who has spent all four years of her collegiate career as a Chippewa, reflected on her last game at McGuirk Arena.

“This place is really special to me,” Anderson said. “So, for it to be my last time, it’s bittersweet.”

The Chippewas gelled on the offensive end Wednesday evening, with four players scoring in double figures.

“We played really well together,” Haynie said. “Sometimes, we get stagnant and play one-on-one ball, and today we didn’t do that.”

After trailing by two early in the second quarter, sophomore guard Jayda Mosley and freshman guard Lilah Turnbull silenced the Falcons with back-to-back threes. CMU then maintained its lead for the remainder of the game.

Bowling Green cut the deficit to just four in the third quarter, but sophomore guard Madi Morson quickly answered with a pull-up jumper and a three to steady the Chippewas.

Morson’s talents were on full display Wednesday, as she led all scorers with 29 points, recorded four assists and picked up three steals.

Mosley and sophomore forward Ayanna-Sarai Darrington followed with 12 points apiece.

CMU’s aggressiveness downhill was evident in this matchup, as they went 25-29 from the free-throw line.

“We knew going into the game, they liked to block shots,” Haynie said. “There were times where we adjusted to it, shot fake, and got into them.”

The Chippewas, who are currently second in the MAC for combined team rebounds and first for offensive rebounds, were able to have every player grab at least one rebound on Wednesday.

They also outrebounded the Falcons 47-27.

“It’s heart and effort,” Haynie said. "[Bowling Green is] a good offensive rebounding team; we knew we had to keep them off the boards, and to hold them to nine offensive rebounds is great.”

This victory concludes regular-season play for the Chippewas, as they will head to Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, next week for the MAC tournament.

Four-seeded CMU will take on the fifth seed at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

“It's good heading into the conference tournament with this confidence of just playing well together,” Haynie said.
