Women's Basketball vs. Toledo: MAC Quarterfinals

The Central Michigan women's basketball team lost to Toledo 76-58 in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Central Michigan senior guard Jess Lawson led the team with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Central Michigan freshman guard Madi Morson scored 12 points and now holds the record for most points scored by a freshman in CMU\\u2019s history. Morson was also named the MAC Freshman of the Year after averaging 16.5 points per game. Toledo was led by graduate student guard Sammi Mikonowicz, who scored a game-high 18 points, going 5-12 from the field. Toledo moves on to face Buffalo in the semifinals on Friday, March 14, 2025. 

Stand Up for Science Rally

The CMU community gathered for a Stand Up for Science rally outside of the Bovee University Center, on the campus of Central Michigan University, Friday, March 7, 2025. Stand Up for Science was a nationwide rally on March 7 to promote science and protest federal firings and proposed funding cuts from the Trump administration.  

Women Entrepreneurs Panel

Central Michigan's College of Business and the College of Arts and Media teamed up to showcase and empower future women entrepreneurs to overcome gender challenges with the Women Entrepreneurs Panel: Shattering The Glass Ceiling in the Townsend Kiva, Tuesday, March 4, 2025. The event was a kickoff in honor of International Women’s Day and hosted three businesswomen panelists including CEO and Principal Designer at Concetti Rachel Nelson, CEO of Franco Tina Kozak and Chief Marketing Officer of Franco Nikki Little to share their experiences with gender challenges.  

A Conversation with Misty Copeland

 

Misty Copeland, a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, spoke to an audience during the ‘A Conversation with Mistry Copeland’ event at Plactha Auditorium, inside Warrnier Hall, March 3, 2025. Copeland is the first Black woman to be promoted to Principal Dancer in the history of the American Ballet Theatre. Copeland answered questions from Central Michigan assistant professor Heather Trommer-Beardslee, and Central Michigan senior Myairra Jefferson, as she described the challenges and struggles she’s faced in her career. 

Lacrosse vs Cincinnati

The Central Michigan Women’s Lacrosse team was defeated by the Cincinnati Bearcats 13-6 during their game in the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex, Sunday, March 2, 2025. This brings the Bearcats to their third straight win, improving to 4-3 for the start of the season and leaving the Chippewas at 0-5 overall. Securing back to back goals in the last minute of the game and fighting hard, the Chippewas were not able to catch up to the Bearcats. 

Women's Basketball vs Ball State

Central Michigan lost in overtime against conference-leading Ball State 60-58 at McGuirk Arena, Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. Central Michigan’s leading scorer was freshman guard Madi Morson with a game-high 26 points. Central Michigan freshman forward Ayanna-Sarai Darrington recorded 12 points and a season-high 21 rebounds. Ball State was led by junior guard Lachelle Austin who had a season-high five steals and a team-high 17 points. Central Michigan moves to 7-8 in MAC play, 12-15 overall and sits seventh in their conference. Their next game will be against Toledo, on Saturday, March. 1, 2025. 

Men's Basketball vs. Buffalo

The Central Michigan university men's basketball team defeats the Buffalo Bulls 73-69 in McGuirk Arena, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025. Senior guard/forward Jakobi Heady and senior guard Anthony Pritchard led the team, scoring 18 points each.

Gather for the Culture

The Central Michigan Multicultural Academic Student Services hosts a Gather for the Culture event for Black History Month in the Towers Eatery, Tuesday, Feb. 25. 2025. The event featured vibrant decorations celebrating Black History Month, creating a welcoming atmosphere for staff and students to enjoy a menu filled with traditional soul food. 

Glam and Go

The Central Michigan University Program Board hosted a Glam and Go event in the Student Involvement Center, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025. Upon arrival students could decorate their own makeup bags and take cosmetic products home when they were done. Students could pick one of each item including a powder puff, fake eyelashes, a headband and lotion with chapstick. Everyone who attended also got to pick what color bag they wanted and how they wanted to decorate it.  

Navigating My Identity

Central Michigan’s Multicultural Academic Student Services (MASS) held a presentation on ‘Navigating My Identity’ at the Sarah and Daniel Opperman Auditorium, in the Park Library, on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025. The presentation was run by Central Michigan senior Imani Ellsworth and featured a speech and Q&A with Central Michigan professor Dr. Rene Shingles. During the event, attendees learned how one's identity navigates where they are in life, and who they become in spaces not designed for them. 

Organization for Black Unity Fashion Show

Central Michigan University’s Organization for Black Unity hosts its 25th annual fashion show titled High School: Back in Session in Plachta Auditorium, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025. The show consisted of six scenes based on high school stereotypes: nerds, hipsters, rebels, preppy, athletes and popular. The auditorium was filled with enthusiastic and supportive fans cheering on the models as they flaunted their outfits during the show.  

Women's Basketball vs. Western Michigan

The Central Michigan University women's basketball team defeats Western Michigan 56-43, with freshman guard Madi Morson leading the team with 26 points, in McGuirk Arena on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025. The win brings a sweep against Western in football, men's basketball and women's basketball all in the same season for the first time since 1991.  

Black Care Starts Somewhere

Multicultural Academic Student Services hosts Black Care Starts Somewhere as part of Black History Month events to inform students on the best way to care for their skin, hair and mental health in the University Center Rotunda on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025. 

Wrestling vs MSU

The Central Michigan University wrestling team defeated the Michigan State wrestling team 22-12 in a non conference dual as their last home meet of the season in McGuirk Arena, Friday, Feb. 21, 2025. The Chippewas hosted their senior night recognizing four seniors Vince Perez, Cameron Wood, Alex Cramer and Johnny Lovett. The regular season for the Chippewas will close with a wrestling dual at The University of Michigan at 5p.m. in Ann Arbor, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025.

Searching for Hannah Crafts: The First Black Woman Novelist

CMU's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of History, World Languages and Cultures hosts Dr. Gregg Hecimovich, a professor from Furman University, as a speaker for the William T. Bulger Lecture Series in Opperman Auditorium on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025. Hecimovich talked about the process of his research learning about Hannah Crafts and the novel she wrote while escaping slavery.  

Restorative Practices for Campus Communities

Central Michigan’s Multicultural Academic Student Services (MASS) held a Restorative Practices for Campus Communities presentation as part of Black History Month events at the Sarah and Daniel Opperman Auditorium in the Park Library on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025. The event was hosted by Central Michigan student Taylor Martin and discussed how restorative practices can build a stronger community at CMU.  

Mocktail Mixer and Etiquette Dinner

CMU students have the chance to hone their professionalism, table manners and networking abilities at the Mocktail Mixer and Etiquette Dinner in the Bovee University Center Rotunda, Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025. Participants practiced appropriate dining manners, participated in facilitated conversations and made formal connections with possible employers. With an emphasis on career readiness in all domains, the event made sure students acquired useful skills for upcoming professional encounters.  

Men's Basketball vs. Akron

Central Michigan lost a nail-biter against conference-leading Akron 85-82 at McGuirk Arena, on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025. Central Michigan junior forward Ugnius Jarusevicius recorded a game-high 32 points and 10 rebounds. This is his second straight 30-10 game and his seventh double-double of the season. Senior guard Anthony Pritchard had 15 points, six assists and went a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. Despite starting just seven players, Central Michigan cut the lead to two with five seconds remaining. However, Akron senior guard Shammah Scott would make two free throws to put the game out of reach. Central Michigan moves to 11-14 overall and 4-8 in MAC play. Their next game is against Ohio, on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025.  

Gymnastics vs Eastern Michigan

Central Michigan gymnastics defeated Eastern Michigan 195.625-194.150 at McGuirk Arena, on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025. This is CMU’s eighth straight win as they improve to 5-0 at home and 3-0 in MAC play. CMU will face off against undefeated Kent State, on Sunday, Feb. 23. The winner of the meet takes control of first place in the MAC. 

Klymyshyn Symposium

Central Michigan University’s Office for Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosts the Klymyshyn Symposium on Inclusive Excellence and Social Justice in the Bovee University Center, Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Friday, Feb. 14, 2025. The event is an opportunity to highlight and increase awareness of research initiatives conducted nationally that focus on equity, inclusion, belonging and social justice.
