There’s a stretch of land outside of Evart, Michigan, that goes on forever but leads to nowhere. Hayfields surround you for what seems like miles on the each side of the road as vehicles bounce on the gravel-created road, making for a less than ideal drive if you’re into fancy scenery.

When Central Michigan University’s Student Government Association began in 1920, it was created with the goal of providing students with a space to advocate for each other and creating meaningful change. Now, 100 years later, the impact of this organization can be seen all around CMU through past and current initiatives. The campus that we know today has been shaped and formed the work that the Student Government Association has done over the last century.






OPINION: Why students should join SGA

Fellow students, the CMU Student Government Association will be holding Senate elections for 15 available seats on Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Bovee University Center Auditorium, on the third floor. These elected members will share an incredible opportunity to make an impact on our campus community. Senators advocate through projects, initiatives, and legislation on the issues they care about.

Since my sophomore year, I’ve been a part of Central Michigan University Student Government Association delegations to United Student Government Conferences, with the 14 other public four-year institutions across the state of Michigan. These conferences are an opportunity to network, collaborate, and come together on common issues like higher education funding, mental health awareness, and sustainability.
