Randolph welcomes largest recruiting class ever for cross country, track and field program

Central Michigan director of cross country/track field Willie Randolph announced one of the largest incoming classes CMU has ever had a few weeks ago. The 2010 class consists of 24 athletes, 16 men and eight women, while eight will run for the men’s and women’s cross country teams.







Track and field teams open home schedule of indoor season

First-year track and field director Willie Randolph spent Friday afternoon pacing the track in the Indoor Athletic Complex, coaching any athlete he could find during the Chippewa Open. The first home meet of the indoor season, the Open was a non-scoring event that included nearly all CMU athletes. Runners from Alma college and unattached athletes also competed in the meet.





Burning Questions: Meet junior Raeanne Lohner

Junior Raeanne Lohner is a distance runner for the cross country team. Lohner finished 39th out of 101 runners in last season’s Mid-American Conference Championships. John Evans: Other than competing and practicing on the track, what do you like to do on your off-days? Raeanne Lohner: I am pretty much a normal college student. I like hanging out with people. My other passion is picking up new books from the library about education because I’m going into secondary education.


Previous relationship critical with new hire for track team

New throws coach John Ridgeway gets to work with All-American Greg Pilling upon coming to CMU. Ridgeway is a former shot put thrower at the University of North Carolina. He was a two-year letter winner at UNC and earned all-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 2000-01. Director and coach Willie Randolph had a previous relationship with Ridgeway before hiring him, something he said is important for any program.


Indoor Athletic Complex to install new FieldTurf

CMU sports teams will get an upgrade to their experience in the near future at the Indoor Athletic Complex. With an Oct. 1 target date, the old turf will be replaced with the same turf used on the Kelly/Shorts Stadium field — by FieldTurf. “It’s the newest generation of artificial surface that’s a very forgiving, more grass-like surface,” said Athletics Director Dave Heeke.



Petersmeyer leaves CMU, takes similar position at Boise State

After initially agreeing to join the track and field and cross country staff, Jeff Petersmeyer will not be coming to CMU after all. Petersmeyer spent the past three years as a track coach at Texas Christian University, where he specialized in the horizontal jumps and multi-events. He was expected to be a part of the Chippewas coaching staff before unexpectedly taking a job elsewhere to work with a mentor of his.
