After finishing the Valparaiso Popcorn Tournament this weekend 3-0, the Central Michigan Volleyball Team is riding a four-game win streak.

CMU started strong, defeating South Dakota State in straight sets 3-1 on Friday. They topped Southeast Missouri 3-1 Saturday to win the tournament.

Senior setter Kathia Sanchez recorded all of the team highs with 43 assists, 23 digs and three aces in Saturday’s victory, earning co-Most Valuable Player honors in the tournament.

Since CMU’s second victory of the season against Morgan State on Sept. 4, Sanchez has recorded a team high 97 assists. Junior outside hitter Jordan Bueter leads the Chippewas with 49 kills.

Bueter is also leading the team defensively with 59 digs this season. Junior defensive specialist Courtney Hiltibran has totaled 54 digs to lead the team, with Sanchez adding 52 through the first nine games.

Freshman middle blocker Jayla Wesley leads the team with 15 blocks so far in 2016. Junior middle blocker Paige Carey has recorded 14 blocks.

Recent individual statistics have not yet been made available.

The Chippewas, now 5-4, will head to Orlando next weekend for the University of Central Florida Challenge before opening Mid-American Conference play the following weekend against Ball State and Toledo.

CMU has played all nine matches on the road this season and will continue until Sept. 30 when it hosts Northern Illinois at McGuirk Arena.
