CMU Football hiring Ian Scott as new defensive line coach

Central Michigan will have a new face leading its defensive line.

The program announced the hire of Ian Scott as its new defensive line coach Wednesday. Scott is replacing Justin Hinds, who left Mount Pleasant to become the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Western Carolina.

Scott was most recently a defensive quality control assistant at UCF, a job he held for three seasons. He has ties to CMU head coach Jim McElwain, as Scott was a defensive graduate assistant in 2017 under McElwain during his tenure at Florida.

"We are thrilled to have Ian Scott join our program, he is a fantastic addition as our new defensive line coach," McElwain said in a press release. "He brings great experience as a player and coach especially with his outstanding career in the NFL. I know our guys are looking forward to working with him and he will be a good fit on our staff."

As a player, Scott was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection at Florida. He totaled 120 tackles and 3.5 sacks during his time as a Gator. He played seven seasons in the NFL, splitting time between the Chicago Bears, Philidelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and the then-San Diego Chargers.

Scott played in Super Bowl XLI as a member of the Bears. In his NFL career, Scott totaled 112 tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Scott is the third coach who will be new to the staff heading into the 2021 season. Michael Zordich was hired as the new defensive backs coach and Alvin Slaughter is the new wide receivers coach. With the hire of Scott, the Chippewas have a full staff.

Here is CMU's entire coaching staff:
