The 12th annual WildDeer Open Disc Golf Tournament will be happening at Deerfield Park on Sunday, Oct. 11.

There will be two rounds of 18 holes along with a lunch provided by the Bubba-Q Food Truck. Check in will start at 7:30 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. and tee time, according to a press release from WildDeer. It is a Professional Disc Golf Association sanctioned event.

The tournament is being organized by students in the Sports Administration Master’s Program.

All participants will have a registration fee of $50 and for $5, they have the opportunity to join a 50/50 raffle or an Ace Pool that will be given to the player that successfully hits an ace during their round. The money from the tournament will help provide support to families affected by congenital heart defects.

All of the proceeds for the tournament will be going to Sawyer’s Light, which is a foundation that was formed by the Bruursema family after losing their son, Sawyer, to Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The foundation is partnered with the Save A Heart Program at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

“The Wild Deer Open is a great opportunity, not only for professional disc golfers to come out, get some stats on the board, but it’s also a great way for us as master’s students in the program at Central Michigan to put on an event and give back to such an amazing cause,” Nathan Arbaugh, a student from the class said.

Anyone is welcome to participate in the event. Those who are interested can register online on the Disc Golf Scene website. Registration closes at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

“We’ve been extremely happy with how the process has gone so far, and we just can’t wait to see the whole event take light and see everybody back out for another year of competition,” Arbaugh said.
