Dogs and Donuts

Central Michigan University’s Office of LGBTQ Services and Gender Equity Programs hosts its annual Dogs and Donuts event in the Center for Student Inclusion and Diversity, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025. The event was open to everyone to enjoy donuts and pet dogs, while discussing self love and healthy boundaries. 

Wrestling vs Kent State

The Central Michigan University wrestling team defeated the Kent State wrestling team 36-0 in McGuirk Arena, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025. This was CMU's third straight win and brings the team to 7-9 overall. Their next home match will be Sunday, Feb. 16 against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).  

Lacrosse vs. Marquette

Central Michigan lost to Marquette 17-5 at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025. Central Michigan senior attacker Reagan Martinsen led the Chippewas with two goals and three points. Senior goalkeeper Alexa Martel made 15 saves and allowed 17 goals. Central Michigan’s next game is against Lindenwood, on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025.  

Religion Area Valentine's Panel

The Central Michigan University religion program hosted a Religion Area Valentine's Panel in Sarah and Daniel Opperman Auditorium, Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025. There were four professors who presented slideshows to advertise their upcoming classes over the next few semesters. The professors also gave insight and stories on how their religious classes can be tied into Valentine's day. The Religion program hosts two of these events every year, one at Halloween and another at Valentine's Day.   

The First 100 Days Reflection

Central Michigan University President Neil MacKinnon hosts a First 100 Days Reflection and Fireside Chat in the Plachta Auditorium of Warriner Hall, Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025. He discussed what he has learned about the university, including strengths, challenges and opportunities. MacKinnon mentioned what he has done with the university community, as well as disclosed a new ambition for the university, “Go Grants.” 

Evolution of Black Leadership at CMU

The Evolution of Black Leadership at CMU event was held at the French Auditorium, on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025. The Black History Month event was held by CMU’s Multicultural Academic Student Services. During the event, attendees listened to a presentation by Central Michigan senior Madison Coleman and Interim Vice President of Student Affairs Stan Shingles. A panel of guests also spoke about the importance of Black leadership and pursuing your passions despite the challenges. 

Men's Basketball vs. Texas State

Central Michigan beat Texas State 85-70 at McGuirk Arena, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. Central Michigan junior forward Ugnius Jarusevicius scored a game-high 19 points and tied his season-high with 14 rebounds. Central Michigan shot 50% from three, also tying their season high. Junior guard Kyler Vanderjagt went 3-3 from beyond the arc and recorded 17 points. Central Michigan moves to 11-12 overall and 4-6 in MAC play. Their next game is against Kent State, on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025.  

Track Chippewa Challenge

Multiple colleges came together at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track for the Chippewa Challenge, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. The CMU women's team took first in 13 events, and 21 athletes would get personal bests. Central Michigan sophomore Elle Himebaugh took first in the 3000m and freshman Jada Pride won the 60H. CMU's next meet will be at GVSU for the Grand Valley Big Meet, on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025. 

Polar Plunge

 

The annual Mount Pleasant Polar Plunge was held outside of O'Kelly's Sports Bar & Grill, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. Participants jumped into the pool to raise money for Special Olympics Michigan. The money raised would be used for training and services to over 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities in the state. This year's Plunge raised over $63,000, beating the goal of $58,000. 

All Major Career Fair

Central Michigan University hosted an All Major Career Fair at Finch Fieldhouse, Friday, Feb. 7, 2025. Companies from all over Michigan came to talk to students and give them insight on job and internship opportunities. Students were told to bring a resume and a pitch to introduce themselves to possible future employers. The event brought in anywhere between 750 to 900 students.  

Intramural Pickleball

CMU Intramural sports hosts the first day of open doubles for pickleball in the Student Activity Center, Friday, Feb. 7, 2025. Teams such as Net Ninjas, Kings of the Court, Hog’n the Kitchen and Pickle Princesses went against one another. Games occur every Friday from 5-8pm until the end of February. 

The Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS)

The Humane Animal Treatment Society is an animal shelter located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. HATS provides many services, including shelter and care for homeless pets, routine and emergency medical care and volunteer programs. Volunteers have the opportunity to take pets on walks outside of the HATS facility. Providing socialization to animals who may not have had it before. This is an important step in making pets more adoptable. 

Gymnastics Tri-Meet vs Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin-Oshkosh

The Central Michigan gymnastics team defeats Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin—Oshkosh during their tri-meet at McGuirk Arena, Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025. The Chippewas ended with a total score of 196.000, just behind them was Southeast Missouri State with a total score of 193.025, and falling short with a total score of 192.375 was Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The meet was a Pink Out, for Girls & Women in Sports, with a total attendance of 385 supporters. 

Women's Basketball vs. Ohio

Central Michigan defeated Ohio 75-48 at McGuirk Arena, on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025. This is Central Michigan's largest margin of victory of the season. The game was headlined by Central Michigan  senior guard Jess Lawson recording her first triple-double of the season, with 10 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Ayanna-Sarai Darrington had a career-high 21 points along with 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Madi Morson had a game-high 24 points and shot 75% from beyond the arc. Central Michigan outrebounded Ohio 58-34 and shot 57.89% from the field in the first quarter en route to an early 15-point lead. Central Michigan moves to 9-13 overall, 5-6 in MAC play.  

LGBTQ Trailblazers

The Black History Month LGBTQ+ Trailblazers event highlighted the contributions of influential figures in both Black and LGBTQ+ history in the Bovee University Center room 108 on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025. CMU Director of LGBTQ+ Services and Gender Equity Bee Taylor and Central Michigan University junior Xavier McKinney  provided context for the event, focusing on the intersections of race and gender identity. Attendees engaged in discussions about pioneers and gained insight into their impact on social justice movements. 

Men's Basketball vs. Miami (Ohio)

The Central Michigan University men's basketball team lost 76-70 to second ranked Miami (Ohio). Junior guard Damarion Bonds led the team with 17 points and senior guard/froward Jakobi Heady followed close behind with 16. The team prepares to face Texas State back in McGuirk Arena on Saturday, Feb. 8 for youth day. 

Navigating the Workforce for Success

Keynote speaker and finance attorney J.R. Clark visited Central Michigan University to talk about the history of African Americans in the United States for the start of Black History Month in Biosciences room 1010, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025. Clark touched on many things including slavery, Jim Crow laws and slavery abolishment. Clark also told many stories about African American role models throughout history and how students can change the world just like they did.  

Men's Basketball vs. Bowling Green

Central Michigan defeated Bowling Green 90-71 at McGuirk Arena, Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. Central Michigan junior forward Ugnius Jarusevicius returned from injury and contributed 21 points and 12 rebounds. Coming off the bench, Central Michigan junior guard Kyler Vanderjagt recorded a career-high 25 points and six three-pointers made. Central Michigan committed only seven turnovers on the night, an improvement after committing 19 turnovers in their last game against Buffalo. Members of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe performed a drum ceremony during halftime. 

Women's Basketball vs Bowling Green

The Central Michigan women's basketball team falls to Bowling Green 76-69 after a hard fought game in McGuirk Arena, Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. Central Michigan was joined by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe during half time to perform a drum ceremony for the audience. 

Spring MainStage

As the spring semester kicks off, attendees gather in the Student Activity Center for Spring MainStage on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. With tables lined throughout the venue, students explored opportunities to get involved on campus and in the community, making new connections along the way.
