With a 79-77 victory over Grand Canyon University on Saturday night, Central Michigan University’s men’s basketball has improved to 5-0 to start the season.This is the first time the Chippewas have won five straight games to start a season since a (name) led team accomplished this in 1980-81.On Saturday night against the Antelopes, CMU faced a different kind of opponent: one that was able to put up a fight in the face of adversity."I think with our team in our first four games prior to tonight, we had found a different way to win," said Head Coach Keno Davis.

Women's basketball opens Las Vegas trip with win

LAS VEGAS-- Senior forward Jas'Mine Bracey pulled down two key rebounds and hit the game-sealing free-throws in the Central Michigan University women's basketball team's 61-56 win over Richmond to open the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout with a victory. The loss moves CMU to 2-1 on the season and handed the Spiders their first loss of 2014. After trailing for most of the game, the Chippewas grabbed their first lead midway through the second half on senior point guard Jessica Green's assist to Lorreal Jones. Bracey's pair of clutch free-throws put the CMU women up 59-56 with 20 seconds remaining. Richmond missed a 3-point attempt on its ensuing trip down the court and Bracey pulled down the rebound, which secured CMU's tournament-opening victory. The Chippewas will turn their attention next to the University of Oregon.

For the second time in 34 years, the Central Michigan men’s basketball team is undefeated after four games.The Chippewas blew out Maine and Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday and Sunday in the Central Michigan Tournament, winning by an average of 30 points.CMU shot 15-for-33 from the 3-point line Sunday, being one 3-point attempt and one 3-point make away from tying program records for most 3-point attempts and makes in a single game.“When you’re making those shots, you’re ok with them continuing to fire away,” said Head Coach Keno Davis.

Central Michigan men’s basketball coach Keno Davis needed his Serbian players, freshmen Milos Cabarkapa and Filip Medjo, to help pronounce the name of Maine’s Serbian, Zarko Valjarevic.Davis needed junior guard and co-captain Rayshawn Simmons to guard him in CMU's 76-48 win over Maine Friday night at McGuirk Arena. Valjarevic came into Friday as Maine’s leading scorer, shooting 50 percent from the 3-point line this year.“Coach put a lot of pressure on me in practice about guarding this guy,” Simmons said.
